"Grindintosecond" (Grindintosecond)

An unplanned overnight in Chicago at a hotel one mile from a Giordano's meant a full belly. Behold a true Chicago pizza. The "Old chicago's" chain is bullshitting you. [EDIT: improved review!]
So I called them on the hotel van from the airport and asked, "How big is the large?" Their answer?
G: "14 inches.....Well, how many are you feeding?"
Me: "Three hungry guys!"
G: "A medium should do that."
Me: "Send the large Special!" And it arrived an our after the call. It's so deep it takes a while to cook. We're talking about an inch and a half deep.....and $36.50 delivered.
Unboxing:
1 of 8 slices. It sort of looks like a disemboweled sea creature with all the cheese. I powered through 2.5 slices. Of us three, one single piece made it out alive....but it's in my hotel refrigerator now waiting for later today to be split up.
And to keep it a car related thread...here's another deep dish.
In summary, the special is Sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion. The sausage pieces are true nice chunks of italian sausage, the mushrooms are sizeable and real ones and the GP and O are good strands and not chopped up alot. It's a great treat once in a while but I can't imagine eating it with the same frequency as we all eat our usual delivery or red-baron stuff. You'd be as big as 'the refrigerator' Perry. KNIFE AND FORK!

Ugh, 5Lbs of cheese. The thought of eating that much cheese at once should disgust me, but I am soooooo hungry now.

If you consider a crust that tastes like a cracker "Real Chicago Pizza", then yes, it is. If you want a light, buttery, flavorful crust, you go to Lou Malnati's. Try going there next time, and you'll see what I mean.

What are you doin' eating the crust? That's more space for beautiful pizza you're taking up in the belly! It is a real pizza tho unlike this uno's in the airport or the 'old chicago' chain that serves up glorified domino's. This is good stuff! The crust was pretty good, not amazing probably like what you are talking about but the pizza itself was wonderful. I don't get to have this very often, only when work has issues and I get stuck at the airport.

Lou's, Giordano's, and Gino's East are the three big ones for me. Mainly because all are within 15 minutes of where I used to live.
Source: I lived in Chicagoland for 18 years.

I miss living in Chicago. But beware, you've opened up a can of worms.
Best Deep Dish Chicago Style Pizza is a phrase for some folks like "my favorite politician is" or "I feel xxx about gun control"...
And for what it's worth, I'm a My Pie guy. goddamn was their pizza good. But for when I needed it delivered, I usually went with Giordano's (lived in the Lakeview area).

I agree. I lived in buffalo for a while and starting any conversation about weather usually ended up with an hour of stories about the Blizzard of 77, or discussions of Anchor Bar vs. Duffs for the best wings in the world....I'll let the others discuss the best pizza. I just had me the best deep that was available to be delivered last night.

Chicago is one of my places to visit when I'm no longer a stupid broke ass college student. Because Blues Brothers. Also, Space Jam. Also, 90's.

Gino's is solid. I'm glad you didn't say Uno. It's not as nearly as good as it used to be.

In the Northern VA area, I think it's actually the only place you can get a real deep dish. I haven't found anything else.
But actually, that's the reason why Uno is not as good as it used to be. They've gone Applebees on everybody.

Where do you live? If I'm ever in the area, I'll hit you up and you can show me the right pizza. I'll buy the pie.

+1 to Lou Malnati's. Also can't go wrong with Geno's East (the actual building, not the store-bought crapboxes).

That looks delicious. I had Giordano's once, it was an experience. I hear there's better there, though. I can't even think about Chicago or Giordano's without being extremely hungry for pizza that I can't even come close to. So thanks for making me depressed all day...

The store bought ones aren't terrible, but they're not as nearly as good as the real thing.

I usually head out to the Lakeview area every 4-6 weeks. I have been partial to Pie Hole for great custom slices, but I will have to try My Pie.

There's only one place outside of Chicago that has come close in quality, and that's Pi in St. Louis. It combines a good, fluffy (but not heavy) crust with great ingredients with St. Louis style sweet sauce.

Sadly Girodano's was 1 mile away. Looking at the map, Malnati's is most likely out of delivery range but I'll have to call them up next time.

Next time do Lou Malnati's for sure. Also be sure to go to Kuma's Corner for the best burger you will find in Chicago. Hand down, Kuma's Corner is my new favorite place to eat in Chicago

Seems like enough in the comments to debate what anyones preference is. I will eventually try all of the others when i get within their delivery area. I don't have a car, only a hotel that limits travel.

What's funny is the debate was started by the commenters. I had that cause it could be delivered to my hotel. It's a deep dish. It's the style. Weather or not it's the best is debatable by many on here aparently in some other threads...

Totally understandable. Wasn't sure how familiar you were with Chicago or anything, when Chicago talks pizza it always ends up a contest lol.
I still buy Giordano sometimes too, price and distance are big factors.
